15 Girls kidnapped in Niger by unknown men.

According recent information released by Boukar Mani Orthe, the mayor of Toumour in Niger's Diffa region, 15 girls were abducted overnight.

Reports further indicates that about 50 gunmen invaded the village located near the border with Nigeria, about 9 km away from the central town. This is recent kidnap comes after 8 persons were on Thursday killed by insurgents of the Boko Haram during an attack at a French drilling Company Foraco’s water well site in Toumour

The activities of the group has caused severe damage over the years causing people to flee their homes in the Lake Chad basin. Kidnapping of young girls and sporadic attacks has been some of the major tactics used by the armed men.

In April 2014, close to 150 school girls were abducted from the Government Secondary School in the town of Chibok in Borno State, Nigeria. This led to widespread campaigns across the nation, and various group advocated for the release of the girls and the initiation of the Bring back our girls campaign.

Boko Haram, an extremist terrorist organization based in northeastern Nigeria which advocates for the establishing an Islamic state has been waging war since 2009 with bloody attacks in Niger, Chad and Cameroon.
